Counting and COVID – Volunteer Herring Counts During a Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic changed the way many towns and watershed groups approached their volunteer herring counts, with some choosing not to count and others modifying their protocols to increase social distancing and reduce potential exposure. Jo Ann Muramoto (APCC/MassBays), Sara Grady (NSRWA/MassBays), and Jon Honea (Andover/Emerson College) discussed how their groups handled counts in 2020, presented the results of the counts that occurred, and provided advice for safe counting in 2021 for those that choose to do so.
