Volunteers needed for Jones River herring count

KINGSTON — The Jones River Watershed Association is looking for volunteers to help with the annual herring count, beginning March 26 and continuing until June 1.
Fisheries biologists rely on volunteer data to assess herring populations along the New England coast.
The count is conducted at the Elm Street fish ladder. Three 10-minute counts are needed from 7 to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.
Training will be provided.
