There are many organizations and groups that are working to protect and rebuild river herring populations.
Some lobby our politicians, go to regulatory meetings, try to change policies, and collect signatures and letters. Others help clean up runs, count herring, rebuild fish ladders and educate the public on the importance of river herring and clean water to our coastal ecosystem.
If you want to help their cause, please contact them directly. We’ve listed the groups most local in Southeast Mass, but there are many throughout the eastern seaboard.
Association to Preserve Cape Cod
Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program
Cape Cod Commercial Fishermens’ Alliance
Mass Audubon- Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
Nantucket Conservation Foundation

If you know of a group that should be listed, please contact us.
