Repairs Underway At Canal Herring Run
    By MICHAEL J. RAUSCH Sep 2, 2018

People walking along the Cape Cod Canal by the Herring Run Rest Area may have noticed a fenced-off area with heavy construction equipment parked nearby.

The Army Corps of Engineers said that repairs are underway to the concrete at a wall in the herring run at the recreation area.

Timothy J. Dugan, spokesman for the New England District of the Army Corps of Engineers, said the work includes “repairing damaged sections of the concrete wall in the run, replacing the damaged concrete headwall on the canal at the beginning of the run, and replacing damaged sections of fencing.”

The $241,400 contract for the work was awarded last fall to Fusiform, Inc. of New Bedford. Mr. Dugan said the work was scheduled to take place at a time when it would have “minimal impact on fish migration patterns.” Due to concerns about fish migration, the actual work had to wait until this month to begin, he said.
