A video monitoring system was installed at the Stony Brook Herring Run Tuesday afternoon to count juvenile herring. Experimental software technology is being used to count the juvenile herring. Christopher George, an Association to Preserve Cape Cod intern, is doing the project as part of his project for a master’s degree in environmental studies at Antioch University New England. The project will experiment with facial recognition software, underwater camera and infrared monitoring setups to count the migrating juvenile herring through an area at the run.
