AmeriCorps workers and official from the Harwich Natural Resources Department on Tuesday cleared the Skinequit River, which runs from Nantucket Sound to Skinequit Pond in South Harwich, to allow an easier path for migrating herring.
Using pitchforks, they picked up leaves and small branches that had fallen into the narrow channel.
Last week, the workers walked much of the Herring River starting from Hinckley’s Pond.
