The Division of Ecological Restoration just announced a grant opportunity to help towns replace culverts. The culvert must be on a public way that is owned by the municipality, the work must be completed by June 30,2018, and it must be on a freshwater waterway with no tidal influence. The water flow through the culvert must be uni-directional. The project must also meet the goals of the MA Stream Crossing Standards.
The application was designed to be filled out by Department of Public Works departments, and have the DPW be the lead contact for the project. So – if you have a project that you think might be eligible – go talk to your DPW folks.
You can find all the information and application materials on the DER website. It’s called the, “Culvert Replacement Municipal Assistance Grant Program”.
